Redfish Lake

|
Redfish Lake is one of several beautiful, glacier carved lakes in the heart
of the Sawtooth mountain range. It is 5 miles long, 1/2 mile wide and 300 feet deep.
This favorite spot for campers is enjoyed by people of many of the surrounding
states. For the sailor, opportunities are somewhat limited, but combined
with other activities in the area, this spot makes for a nice stay.
There is one ramp available on Redfish Lake. It is located in the east campground.
At that site, limited "public mooring" is available at no charge. A sandy beach
provides a place on which to pull smaller boats. 3 or 4 mooring buoys are
there but availability is questionable. At the north end of the lake is
Redfish Lake Lodge. They have
mooring buoys available, but you will need to call for reservations. At the
time of this writing (August 2003), the charge was $20/night. There are no
docks available. Staff is available as couriers to and from your boat.
Facilities include a shower house and laundry approximately 1/2 mile north
of the lodge. A small convenience store, restaurant, gas, cabins and small
boat rentals are available near the lodge. In addition, hiking opportunities
are plentiful and horseback trail rides are available.
This is an excellent lake for smaller boats with several sandy beaches to
pull up on. Both campgrounds have such a beach.
Redfish Lake is a very popular area. Reservations are necessary for lodging
and camping at the lake. Expect it to be busy. Beware! This is Idaho's
"cold spot." Temperatures may drop into the 40's at night. The facilities
operate from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
