Priest Lake - Bishop's Marina

Bishop's Marina
Bishop's Marina
We started our trip with a launch at Bishop's Marina. The ramp is shallow, but adequate, at least in a normal water level year. This is not an ideal place to rig a sailboat because there is a power line running the length of the parking lot. Make sure you are on the ramp side of the powerline before rigging, or you will have to do it all over again. No, I didn't have to rig it a second time. One must infringe on the space of a resident in order to have room to rig the boat and be out of the way of other boaters. Vehicle parking is limited to the street, but there is plenty of room if one doesn't mind what may be 1/4 to a 1/2 mile walk on busy weekends and holidays. Being the 4th of July weekend, we had a little walk on our hands. There is little dock space, so it is necessary to get the boat off the dock as soon as possible to make room for others.

Bishop's has fuel and a pump out station and a lounge with a small restaurant. There is a nice Leonard Paul's grocery store just across the street. Provision well because it is the only grocery on the lake. There are no overnight moorage or shower facilities here.

There is a second county launch ramp just to the north of Bishop's, but it appeared too shallow for us to even get close to it without raising the centerboard. We might add, at this point, that there appears to be no good launch sites for a deep draft sailboat. That was our observation, but the locals may know of a place we didn't discover.
